History & Background
The Toronto Music Garden was conceived in the late 1990s as part of a revitalization project for the city's waterfront. Inspired by Yo-Yo Ma's vision of a garden that reflects the structure of Bach's Suite No. 1 for Unaccompanied Cello, landscape designer Julie Moir Messervy brought the concept to life. Opened in 1999, the garden quickly became a beloved cultural landmark, offering free concerts and educational programs. Its design symbolizes the connection between nature and music, creating a space where visitors can experience both art forms in harmony.
